A low glycemic food list provides you with the choices that you need to benefit your body. Whether you want to lose weight, develop more energy, improve your health or prevent diabetes you can use this list to find the foods that will get the job done. It’s certainly not a crime to love the foods you eat but your health needs a little love too.
Now you probably think you already have all the answers when it comes to dieting. Truthfully there is a lot more involved with healthy diets than most people realize.

The first thing to keep in mind is that we are talking about establishing lifetime eating habits that protect your health and body. Most people seem to associate the term ‘diet’ with a brief change in their meal choices. Thus the tendency for many individuals is to merely reduce the amount of food they are eating for a few days (or even a couple of weeks).

The only thing this really does is allow you to lose some of your body’s ‘water weight’. Some people may lose a few pounds but in most cases even this weight loss is a temporary fix. More than likely these changes in eating habits are only going to create more problems for your body, have a negative impact on your health and cause your blood glucose to undergo many erratic fluctuations.

Short term changes such as this do nothing to really address the problems that you are experiencing with foods, body weight or eating practices. This is why so many people are now beginning to discover the healthy benefits of a low glycemic food list.

Understanding Blood Glucose Levels and your Body

All of the foods that you eat must be processed by your body. The digestive juices break down food products into chemical compounds that can be metabolized and absorbed. When the digestive process releases too many sugars into the bloodstream the pancreas must kick out more insulin.

The sugar spikes means that your pancreas is working harder and for many people this is the beginning stage that will lead to adult onset diabetes. Too little insulin and the high glucose will damage your organs-too much insulin and you will feel the effects when your body undergoes a ‘sugar fueled crash’. This is when hypoglycemia occurs.
An overburdened pancreas and too many demands can even lead to insulin resistance. This is when your body no longer responds appropriately to the insulin that is being produced by your pancreas.

Blood Glucose, Diabetes and YOU

Continual surges, shifts and dips in blood glucose levels may result in adult onset diabetes but it is also going to damage your body. Erratic levels of blood sugar can lead to heart disease and kidney problems.
Unlike juvenile diabetes it is very possible to treat your Type 2 diabetes with a low glycemic food list and daily exercise. You can even reverse the symptoms and win the war against diabetes. Just imagine being able to regain your good health by watching what you eat. Say hello to the GI diet and wave goodbye to insulin shots and daily pills.

Introducing the Glycemic Index

This is a well-researched meal plan that has been in existence since the 1990s. The Glycemic Index was originally intended as a tool that diabetics could use to help regulate their blood glucose levels and control the symptoms associated with diabetes.

Now health experts agree that a low glycemic diet is a good idea for anyone to use, not just their diabetic patients. This diet is based on the foods that have a low ranking on the glycemic index. Any ingredient rated 0-55 is considered to be a low GI food. There are also foods that are classified as medium and some are relegated to the ‘high GI’ category.

Low Glycemic Foods

The lower ranked GI foods are digested slowly by the body and the sugar compounds are released at a slow, controlled rate. This means that your blood glucose will remain stable throughout the day. The slower digestive process of these natural carbohydrates will prevent peaks and valleys in your blood sugar level and you will be satisfied with less food. No more binging because of hunger cravings.

These foods can give you the healthy, long-lasting energy that your body needs throughout the day. In fact when you follow this diet you will be able to burn fat, lose weight and still have energy to spare.

Low Glycemic Diet Foods

Healthy eating begins with a low glycemic food list and it is easy to get started. Some of the food choices available include, among others:

Whole grains
Fresh fruits
Many canned and frozen fruits
Vegetables
Pasta (garden variety and whole-grain versions)
Whole-grain breads
Basmati rice
Special K and other cereals
Legumes
Sprouts

There are a number of options on the low glycemic food list. You choose which foods you want to include on a personalized low GI diet. Now it really is possible to change your life and health for the better with a well-balanced eating program.

Once you learn how to use low GI foods to stabilize and control your blood glucose you will discover that it is much easier to lose weight and control those hunger pains. Those individuals who may already have hypoglycemia or even those who now have diabetes will find that foods low on glycemic index charts are the solution to those erratic shifts in blood glucose readings.

With a practical diet based on the glycemic index chart you can now maintain normal blood sugar readings throughout the day and night. No more drops in your blood glucose during the middle of the night that may cause you to wake up in a cold sweat.
While foods low on glycemic index charts are a wonderful benefit for diabetics, pre-diabetics, hypoglycemic patients, and those who may be developing insulin resistance, these foods are also the best choice for anyone who wants to improve their health.

Spikes and dips in blood sugar levels are among the top reasons that people cannot follow many of the weight loss diets. When your blood sugar begins to fall the tendency is to find something to eat that will correct the situation. Unfortunately many people fall back into their old habits and grab a pack of cookies, a sugary soda or even a bag of greasy potato chips.

These starches and carbs are going to be converted into sugars in just a short period of time. While the initial sugar rush may seem to solve the problem of ‘falling blood sugar’ this ‘food high’ will be followed by another drop in your glucose level. This see-saw demand on your pancreatic system is damaging the effectiveness and efficiency of your natural insulin production. You should also consider the fact that this is stressing your body and providing a foundation that could easily result in insulin resistance or diabetes.

Many people have learned how to cure or control their diabetes with daily exercise, reduced stress and healthy eating plans. Now you can use foods low on glycemic index charts as your key to a healthy life.

According to the GI scale the foods that are ranked as being ‘Low’ are those with a rating of 0-55. The next classification is Medium. These are the GI food choices that can be enjoyed in limited amounts; and then there are many popular foods that have been branded as High GI selections. The High GI foods (a rating of 70 and above) are usually designated with a ‘red dot’.

Think of this classification as a traffic signal-Red (stop)/Yellow (caution)/Green (go). Green (low) GI foods can be consumed without worry or guilt. The Yellow (medium) GI selections are the foods that should be used judiciously in any diet program. High (red) GI foods are the items that should be avoided or eliminated.

It all begins with changing the way you eat and eliminating those unhealthy foods that rate high on the GI scale. Instead of sugary cereals you can substitute whole grain granola or oat cereal. Bran and barley are other foods that you can substitute for processed cereals.
Substitute sweet potatoes for those baked white potatoes and enjoy the healthy, low GI benefits. Instead of white rice learn to use other options such as Doongara or Basmati. If you love pasta, feel free to eat noodles once or twice a day but the healthiest options will be the whole-wheat or veggie noodles, and quinoa.

Eliminate white bread and choose bread products that are made with sour dough or whole-grain flour. Stop stressing your body with processed foods and begin to include fresh fruits and veggies in the majority of your meals. While you are free to indulge in most vegetables you should limit the amount of corn you eat due to its high sugar/starch content.

You can easily follow any diet based on foods low on glycemic index lists. When you begin eating the foods that contain complex carbohydrates and natural starches you will be providing your body with a steady, slow stream of glucose. This glucose will help prevent any erratic blood sugar fluctuations. The slow release of sugars into your bloodstream also means that you will no longer feel those ‘hunger pains’ because your system will constantly have the fuel that it needs. Even your energy levels will begin to soar as your body adjusts to your new, healthier diet.

A diabetic diet food list can be your key to a healthier and happier life. While many people believe that a diabetic meal plan is intended only for patients with this disease the truth is that these meal plans are the best option for anyone who wants to improve their health.

With a diabetic diet food list you can create nutritious meals that are designed to help you reach (or maintain) your ideal weight. These foods are also the best choices for any individual who wants to control their blood glucose levels. With an ADA diet you are going to be able to enjoy regular meals and snacks throughout the day. You will begin to feel more energetic, burn fat and feel more satisfied even though your meals now contain fewer calories.

With a diabetic diet food list you are going to create meals that are good for your body. You will discover that you can also use a low glycemic index chart to gain more insight into your food choices.

While many people are familiar with counting calories they usually have less general knowledge about the GI scale. Perhaps you have thought your diet was healthy simply because you selected your meals based on the typical ‘food pyramid’. With this diagram you could see that you should choose more foods from certain dietary groups such as fruits and vegetables, and fewer items from the top of the pyramid.

For instance your normal diet may have consisted of the following choices. 6-8 starches, 3-4 fruits and 3 vegetables. This is a good beginning but you should also be making your food selections based on how the different foods are ranked on a low glycemic index chart.

Carbs and Starches

Whole grains, bread products, cereals, many vegetables and other healthy food choices are classified as starches. You should always include some starches in your meals, even if you have already been diagnosed with diabetes. These foods will provide your body with fiber, essential vitamins and minerals, plus those digestible carbohydrates that can give you sustainable amounts of energy.

There are some carbs and starches that are going to better for your body. This is where the low GI food chart will come into play. If you are considering corn, potatoes or leafy greens for your meal it may be tempting to consider all vegetables as interchangeable selections. However this is not the case.

In order to choose the food that will have the least effect on your blood sugar you need to compare each one according to its glycemic index ranking. This will show you that a sweet potato and leafy greens are going to have the lowest index number. Of course corn and white potatoes are also healthy foods to eat, but if you are really concerned about creating the least spike in your blood glucose level then the sweet potato or a serving of leafy greens could be your best bet.

When you use a diabetic diet food list it will help you create well balanced meals and snacks. The GI chart will give you the additional knowledge that helps you realize which food choices are best ones to help you maintain a normal blood glucose reading.

Utilizing both of these dietary tools is easy to do, once you become accustomed to the way the foods are categorized. Soon it will be second nature for you to make your meal choices without even referencing these charts.

A diabetic diet food list will give you the knowledge you need to take charge of your life. If you have diabetes it is highly probable that you can even reverse this condition through a healthy diet and exercise. Even if you do not have diabetes these food choices can ensure that this disease does not become a problem. No matter what your current age or physical condition may be at this moment, it is possible for you to use a diabetic meal planning guide and a low GI food list to create a better life for yourself by improving your health and body.

If you are searching for a natural food boost you should know that most metabolism problems can usually be cured with a proper diet. Most individuals who want to improve their energy levels turn to high carb food choices, but you need to know which items to select. The wrong choices could cause stress for your pancreas and send your blood glucose levels soaring through the roof.

For this purpose, when you look to the right of this article, you will see an invitation to subscribe to our free 10 part mini-course which will be sent to your email address at no charge whatsoever, and as a bonus, you will be able to download a free glycemic index chart so you can start getting a grip on how this works. There are also plenty video recipes on the site you can watch that will teach you how to make low gi meals quickly and easily.

Have you been feeling tired and sluggish even though you are eating a well-balanced diet? The problem may not be YOU- but it could be the food choices that you are including in your usual meals and snacks. Many of your foods might actually be high on the glycemic index scale when you really should be eating more of the healthy foods that have a low GI rating. Whenever you experience the benefits of a low GI food boost, metabolism rates are going to react in a positive manner and your energy levels will dramatically improve.

Diabetes

Most people are trying to find a simple solution for good health. This is especially true for many diabetics. Today there are millions of new cases of diabetes being diagnosed. In order to help prevent this chronic health condition from taking over your own life you should pay careful attention to the foods that you are eating.

A Low glycemic index meal plan can help anyone improve their blood glucose levels. Even those individuals who do not have diabetes can enjoy the healthy benefits and high energy levels that this type of diet can provide. Without a natural food boost metabolism rates and energy levels can become sluggish, but foods that have a low glycemic index are able to give your body the fuel it needs to keep your metabolism and energy humming along.

High Blood Sugar

Your body is constantly trying to keep up with multiple demands. When you eat those foods that rapidly convert to simple sugars you are placing a heavier burden on your pancreatic system. When these sugars are circulating in your bloodstream the pancreas has to try to produce enough insulin to meet the demand.

If you are a pre-diabetic, or already have been diagnosed with diabetes, then it can be difficult for your pancreas to handle the job. Your body may be unable to produce sufficient amounts of insulin, or your pancreas may have stopped producing any insulin at all. You could even be developing insulin resistance.

Low GI Diet

There have been many studies that prove a low GI diet can provide patients with an easy way to help them control the levels of their blood sugar. The foods on a low glycemic index chart are able to prevent the signs and symptoms associated with both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia by maintaining a normal blood glucose level throughout the day.

Why Low GI Foods Beat Diabetes

Carbohydrates are the primary source of energy for your body. Candy, sodas and simple carbohydrates are going to end up draining your body of energy while creating dramatic shifts in your blood sugar level.

The type of food that boost metabolism and energy levels can be found among those that are categorized as low glycemic index food choices. These are the complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits.
When you eat brown rice, cooked veggies, whole grain bread and a fresh salad you are providing your body with nutrition that it can break down over the course of several hours. During this digestive process the resulting sugars can be processed slowly, which means that you will have the energy you need but your blood glucose will not be experiencing those extreme ‘highs and lows’.

Wise Food Choices

You need to be able to distinguish which types of foods are going to be best for your body and health. The low GI diet will list all possible food choices and show you which ones are the better choices. Low GI food that boost metabolic rates and have a minimal effect on blood glucose readings are the foods that are ranked 0-55 on the GI scale.

Hypoglycemic Diet and Low GI foods keep your blood sugar under control. You need to choose GI low foods that continually promote stable glucose levels. A hypoglycemic diet based on low glycemic index (GI) foods will keep you on the right nutritional path. These are the foods that curb hunger pains, give you that ‘natural energy boost’ and help you maintain normal blood glucose levels throughout your day.

Hypoglycemia

The condition known as hypoglycemia occurs when blood glucose levels are lower than normal. This can occur when a person has not been eating and drinking properly, or it can occur with pregnancy. However many hypoglycemic episodes are the result of an imbalance in the body’s ability to process insulin correctly.

Understanding Carbs and their Relationship to a Hypoglycemic Diet

Most individuals know that carbs (carbohydrates) provide the quick energy needed by the body. Essentially carbohydrates are composed of sugar molecules, but they are also classified according to how many sugars they contain. Equally important is whether these foods contain simple sugars of complex starches.

Simple carbs can be processed by the body’s digestive system very quickly. Most of these foods contain only 1-2 types of sugar, such as sucrose. The complex carbs are known as polysaccharides and their long chain molecules take longer to be digested and broken down.

At one time you would find doctors and nutritionists recommending diets based on complex carbs for any patient who was experiencing diabetes or hypoglycemic symptoms.

The premise was that the complex polysaccharides would cause fewer spikes in blood sugar levels. Naturally many people were instructed to believe that simple sugars were bad and complex sugars were good.

A hypoglycemic diet should be able to provide you with the energy you need throughout the day. This diet should also help you maintain normal blood glucose levels without those periodic dips that drain your body and cause episodes of weakness, fainting or nausea.

It has been discovered that the best way to judge how your body responds to different foods is by using a low GI diet and food list. This will allow you to choose a wider choice of foods for your meals and the items that you select will help you prevent hypoglycemic episodes.

When you look at a low glycemic index chart you will find that brown rice is a healthy food choice and it has less of an effect on your blood sugar than a baked potato. In other words these are both complex carbs that would be generally recommended to diabetics and others with blood glucose issues, but the GI chart helps you determine which of these foods is actually better for your health.

When you eat foods that rate high on the GI chart you will be consuming products that are known to create extreme shifts in your normal blood sugar. This means that you are actually demanding your pancreas to work harder, and faster, to pump out more insulin.

While the insulin rushes into your bloodstream to address the sugars that are being broken down the excess insulin that remains in circulation will cause your body’s blood sugar level to drop as all available glucose is corralled and transported from your bloodstream.

This is the stage when the hypoglycemic symptoms will begin to appear. Think about those ‘sugar crashes’ that you may have experienced after eating candy, doughnuts or fast food. This is the same principle that is involved in this situation-too much insulin being created at one time. The high sugar levels that register as simple carbs are being digested creates a signal to your pancreas that will not be ignored.

When you are eating foods that have a low GI rating the sugar levels do not reach epic proportions, therefore your system does not rush to respond in the same manner.

Repeatedly high blood glucose levels resulting from unhealthy food choices and your body’s demand for extra insulin can even create a situation where those beta cells in the pancreas are damaged, or destroyed. If this happens you could quickly develop adult onset diabetes which is also known as Diabetes Mellitus.

Changing to a Low GI Diet

A healthy hypoglycemic diet and a low GI diet are the same ‘creature’. In fact a diet that is based on low-medium GI foods is one of the best lifestyle choices you can make.

You will still be able to enjoy most of your favorite foods, and there are some amazingly delicious recipes that you can learn to create at home. It is even recommended that people on a low GI diet eat more frequent meals and snacks during the day.
This means that you can enjoy 5-6 meals each day and improve your health without feeling deprived, or starved. You will have more energy and can even lose that extra weight without a great deal of effort and strain.

Nothing is further from the truth and I know by experience! As a diabetic since more than 20 years, I struggled for some 18 years before I stumbled upon an article about the famous Pima Indian tribe in New Mexico.

I casually read the page until a passage caught my eye. A group of this tribe moved to the USA to start a new life and the diabetes among them went up from a mere 3 % to a whopping 70%, apparently because they had changed their diet.

That got me thinking. Could it be that my condition, type 2 diabetes, was caused by what I was eating? Sure enough, I started reading up on the subject to find out as much as I could. At 70, I had a stake in health improvement and I wanted to do something about my overweight condition anyway, so that was two birds with one stone.

My doctor had been repeating at every opportunity that with my condition, I would greatly benefit from losing weight and controlling my food. I remember at the start, 18 years ago that he sent me to a nutritionist.

Old habits die hard they say, but I guess I must have been a little unconscious of the danger I was facing, because for 18 long years I refused to change anything in my eating habits. I did not see the added value and I plain was not ready to change my habits.

And there we have it: changing habits is about being motivated to go ahead and do it, and I can’t say it was lack of warning that prevented me from considering it. I must also admit I was not open to change and that probably is because I put more trust in the pills I received to cure me, than my will to accept anything less than an easy solution.

Taking pills was an ideal way of coping, but there are many disadvantages, because I was not being cured by the medicine. Some of these are, among many others, the cost involved, the obligation to keep popping the pills, the strain on my health and the loss of energy levels at a personal level.

Low glycemic foods were proven to reduce heart disease risk, get blood cholesterol levels lower, improve energy levels and encourage weight loss, which is especially indicated for diabetics type 2. Low glycemic food helps the body to control sugar release levels during the digestive process and they are needed for proper management of diabetes.

It took me many years to get to the point where I decided to embrace change and I suggest you don’t imitate my lack of understanding of the enormous risk in this matter. The glycemic foods index is a way of ranking carbohydrates by how they affect blood sugar levels.

Omega 3 fish oil supplements are some of the fastest growing biggest selling supplements on the planet, and for good reason. Omega 3 fish oil is brain food for baby. Omega 3 fish oil contains polyunsaturated fats that are critical for powerful healing power Omega 3 can help the body to function more efficiently and can lower both the levels of unhealthy fats in the blood and blood pressure.

Omega-3s

Omega-3s can lower your level of triglycerides, a type of blood fat that’s linked to heart disease. Omega fatty acids come from several sources in nature but the richest source is from fish, with some fish containing more of the oils than others. Omega fatty acids-EPA and DHA-are considered “long chain” fatty acids and are found primarily in cold-water fish (salmon, mackerel, cod, herring, rainbow trout, sardines, anchovies or eel) and fish oil supplements.

Fish oil, have been shown to reduce inflammation and help prevent certain chronic diseases such as heart disease and arthritis. Omega fatty acids are an important part of the diet, and which most Americans aren’t getting nearly enough.Fatty fishFatty fish like albacore tuna, halibut, herring, mackerel, lake trout, salmon, and sardines are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty fish consumption and is chemic heart disease mortality in older adults: The cardiovascular heart study.

Some studies have shown that omega fatty acids may increase the susceptibility of LDL to oxidation, 98, 99 whereas others have not. The reason omega 3 fatty acid can help you lose weight is that there is a balance in the body of different kinds of fats. It has also been suggested that omega-3 fatty acids can also help to protect against developing certain cancers; in particular prostate, breast and colon cancer.

Fatty Acid Important Components

Two important components found in omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The health benefits of omega 3 fatty acids are no longer in doubt; the fact that fish oil is the best source of omega 3 is not in question either. The growing importance of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet have been validated by leading medical researchers, universities including Harvard Medical School and the American Heart Association.

The benefits of omega-3 fatty acids can make a big difference in both the health and beauty of a woman.SupplementsSupplements made or sold by a nationally known food or drug company are more likely to be made under tight controls. For many nutritional supplements, interactions with other medications are unknown. Ongoing studies have shown that supplements of fish oils can improve all aspects of brain function and reduce deficits caused by dementia and other brain impairing disorders. Aerobic exercise along with combined fish-oil supplements reduces the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

The omega-3 fatty acids found in WIN

Omega3complex are beneficial to everyone. A questionnaire given to more than 3,000 people over the age of 49 found that those who ate more fish were less likely to have macular degeneration (a serious age-related eye condition that can progress to blindness) than those who ate less fish. Omega 3 is found in some useful food like flaxseed, walnuts and a few other foods.

Since many people are a little concerned about the mercury levels in fish, taking fish oil capsules is an option.Essential Fatty AcidEssential fatty acid supplementation has also been linked to improvements in skin disease among the elderly and malnourished. A study conducted by Cederholm et al. However, it has been demonstrated by using Essential fatty acids, that it benefits health overall, and over-the-counter treatment is generally safe. . Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are critical to every cell of your body and essential for anti-aging.

Omega-3

These essential fatty acids are considered : necessary for a healthy body but the body doesn’t produce them and the only way to get them is through food. Heart HealthPeople who follow a Mediterranean-style diet tend to have higher HDL or “good” cholesterol levels, which help promote heart health. Your cell membranes will be more flexible and curved in structure and have a more elastic nature.

What does this mean for your daily diet? Considering a very minimum recommendation of 1 gram of omega-3 per day (more if you consume grain-fed meats and dairy), a good helping of mackerel or salmon certainly gives you a boost, but it likely doesn’t cover your daily needs.American Heart AssociationTo support and promote cardiac and physical well-being, the American Heart

Association (AHA) recommends that people that need to lower triglycerides should take 2-4 grams of EPA + DHA per day provided as capsules under a physician’s care. Because of this evidence, the American Heart Association recognizes the benefit of Omega 3 fish oil and recommends that everyone has at least two 3-ounce servings of fatty fish once a week. If you’ve had a previous heart attack, omega-3 fatty acids may help lower the risk of death from heart disease.

Eskimos:

Scientists discovered that Greenland Eskimos rarely develop coronary heart disease even though they consume a great deal of fat. Sea mammals and other seafood provide most of the fat in their diet including significant quantities of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids.

Conclusion

There is no doubt the value of Omega 3 fish oil and Your overall health. Science has been able it prove the overall impact of fish oil for good health. Omega 3 fish oil can help the body to function more efficiently and can lower both the levels of unhealthy fats in the blood and blood pressure. Start taking Omega 3 fish oil today for better health tomorrow.
